CALAFCO Annual Conference celebrates the natural wonders of Yosemite
LAFCO’s state organization, CALAFCO, held their Annual Conference October 16-18 in Yosemite. It provided an excellent opportunity to network and learn from each other. Representing Napa LAFCO were two Commissioners and two staff members.
Both Executive Officer Freeman and Clerk/Jr. Analyst Pratt were engaged on the months-long planning committee that aimed to align efforts across environmental justice, water management, and organizational leadership for a more equitable and sustainable future.
Environmental Justice – The conference focused on enhancing community engagement and educating residents about LAFCO, emphasizing collaboration with environmental justice advocates and leveraging existing processes like general plans and state grants.
Water – Two sessions focused on water systems, both private and public, related to empowering water policy advocates through education, collaboration, and inclusion.
Succession Planning – The conference highlighted the importance of succession planning for LAFCO staff to ensure continuity and effective governance while navigating change.
Ms. Pratt was honored that her photo of American Canyon was featured on the cover of CALAFCO’s annual magazine The Sphere.
